Our History

Established in 1967, the Foundation for Chabot-Las Positas Community College District has a long history of supporting the District, and the students and communities it serves. From its inception, the Foundation was created to serve the broader District, which today includes Chabot College, Las Positas College, and the Economic Development Contract Education Department, home to many of the District’s workforce development programs and apprenticeships. Over the decades, the Foundation’s role has evolved alongside the District and the changing needs of our region.

As the District has grown and changed, the Foundation’s role and its relationships with the District and college foundations have become more clearly defined. A Master Agreement established with the District in 2000 further clarified the Foundation’s role, and a 2022 Memorandum of Understanding with the Friends of Chabot College Foundation and Las Positas College Foundation formalized a collaborative approach to philanthropy across the District. 

Today, the Foundation has a distinct role alongside the two college foundations, with a focus on districtwide opportunities and collective impact. As the Foundation enters a new chapter of revitalization, we are building on nearly 60 years of history while expanding philanthropy and partnerships to serve more students and adult learners and advance priorities established by the District’s Board of Trustees.

We will know we are making progress when…

• Scholarship reach, retention, and completion: More students with financial need receive Foundation support that helps remove financial barriers, and we can demonstrate how that support contributes to students persisting in their education and completing certificates, degrees, apprenticeships or transfer goals. 
• Donor engagement, stewardship, and giving growth: We increase the number of engaged donors, strengthen relationships with existing supporters, and see growth in donors who renew or increase their giving because they understand the impact of their support. 
• Internal and external partnerships: When we see an increase in active partnerships with District departments and programs that leverage resources to serve more students and address critical needs, along with new or expanded employer and community partnerships that bring additional funding, resources, and opportunities to workforce development programs and the students and adult learners they serve.
